Piazza Venezia is a very large square located in the heart of Rome. The name of the square derives from Palazzo Venezia, a building previously used as Venice marittime Republic embassy in Rome. One of the most important parts of the square is the enormous monument called “Vittoriano”, dedicated to Vittorio Emanuele II, first king of Italy.
The monument is also known as “Altare della Patria” because it contains the altar of the unknown soldier.
